Community Environment

How fitting is it that TECO (and you) are back at free, fun EcoFest this year again?

Smile — It’s free, fun, EcoFest!

As TECO team members descend this Sunday, April 22, on EcoFest – the Tampa Earth Day celebration you just can’t miss – they’ll be at Lowry Park in Tampa and very near some other members of the community they may see again in a few months’ time.

In a twist you maybe didn’t see coming, those members of the community are rescued manatees undergoing rehabilitation at ZooTampa at Lowry Park. Each year, during the open season at Tampa Electric’s Manatee Viewing Center (Nov. 1 through April 15), manatee specialists release healthy manatees at our environmental education facility to swim free in nature. This has been going on for years and it’s one connection among countless others that we have to the environment.

And another big connection brings us back to EcoFest, where we’re proud to welcome you alongside sponsors USF Health, the city of Tampa, Learning Gate Community School and others. While the focus is on sustainability, inspiring the next generation of advocates for the environment and more, the big takeaway is fun!

So bring the whole family, friends, neighbors and random people you meet on the street. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the free event features live music, local artists, eco-friendly vendors, yoga, a kids’ zone, food trucks with an array of delicious things to eat and a parkour agility course (participation in parkour is not required for entry to EcoFest). Meanwhile, Tampa Bay Tiny Homes will do its part to foster the microhouse movement by bringing one of its tiny homes for you to explore.

EcoFest invariably draws enthusiastic crowds.

As you enjoy the sights and sounds of the community coming together for a great cause that we all share, you’re bound to hear a thing or two about how important the environment is to TECO. We’re the 119-year-old Tampa hometown company, after all, with plans well underway to deliver a larger percentage of our power from solar energy than any other utility in Florida. We’re taking big steps to improve water quality and air quality, and we’re out in the community on a regular basis creating healthier habitats.

We’ll help you save energy, which is good for everyone. We’re ready with valuable, vetted advice in the hope you’ll consider buying an alternative fuel vehicle when you need a new car. We make it easy and free for you to immerse yourself in magnificent natural Florida.

And we’ll greet you with great big smiles at an event you know you want to experience: EcoFest 2018 at Lowry Park, this Sunday, National Earth Day, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
