Even lower bills coming to Tampa Electric customers in 2019

We recently shared some good news with our customers: you will be paying less in 2019 for the same safe, reliable electric service you have today. With another proposed reduction, residential customers could see monthly bills below $100 – the lowest in 13 years.

On Aug. 24, 2018, Tampa Electric filed its projected costs for fuel and other clauses with the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC). If the PSC approves the requests as filed, the average residential customer’s 2019 monthly energy bill would drop in January by about 8 percent, or more than $8, to $99.55 for 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of usage. Commercial and industrial customers would also see bills drop by about 8 percent, depending on usage.

The PSC is expected to vote on the proposed decrease in November. While bills are slightly rising in September to reflect PSC-approved base rate adjustments for utility-scale solar projects coming online in the next several months, the proposed decrease will more than counteract the increase. The overall decrease is the result of lower costs of fuel and environmental compliance costs, among other factors, and also includes the previously approved tax reform benefit.
