For many TECO team members, the company’s commitment to the community includes things like free Home Energy Audits to help customers save money, solar power projects to grow the use of clean energy, and system upgrades to enhance our 99.9 percent power service reliability.

On Jan. 23, we joined the thousands who took to the streets for the Gasparilla Children’s Parade, bringing our own brand of community engagement to a showcase for one of the many things that makes the Tampa Bay area great.

Lynn Pushman, coordinator of Special Events and Multimedia Graphics with Corporate Communications, is the mastermind of TECO’s participation in the Gasparilla and other parades the company participates in in an official capacity. She was at it again Jan. 23, juggling countless factors – including frigid weather – to pull off another successful appearance by her company.

Joining her in the parade was Bill Longstreth, director of Corporate Communications. He said that the parade is a fun way to remind people about Tampa Electric’s place in Tampa’s growth. The company’s inception dates back to 1899, predating the debut of the world-renowned pirate festival by five years. Peoples Gas got its start even earlier, in 1895.

“A lot of incredible organizations and people are part of Gasparilla, and TECO is proud to capture the spirit of Tampa alongside them,” Longstreth said. “At the end of the day, as we work to serve the community, we’re members of the community too. We want the same reliability, the same community and environmental stewardship, that our customers want. We’re uniquely positioned to do things that can make a positive difference.”

He added, “Gasparilla is one more opportunity to show everyone how much TECO loves Tampa – and it’s an opportunity we relish.”
