If you can’t stand the heat…cool down your kitchen (and the rest of your home) with help from Tampa Electric

Energy savings, in several cool colors.
Energy savings, in several cool colors.

Don’t look now, but Florida may have finally gotten the memo that fall is here. While that means we can enjoy a little cool weather – before what may well feel like a week-long winter – it also presents a great opportunity. To put it another way: take steps now to maximize your comfort level and energy savings at home with the help of Tampa Electric’s Heating & Cooling program!

Our Heating & Cooling program lets you earn a rebate when you replace your old, inefficient air conditioning system with a new, energy-efficient system that meets our energy-saving standards. This program is available to all residential customers.

As you can see below, the program factors the seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) into appliance upgrades you can make to benefit in multiple ways. As the Air-Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration Institute helpfully explains, the SEER is “a mathematically determined ratio of the total cooling capacity during normal periods of operation (not to exceed 12 months) divided by the total electric energy input during the same time period.”

Take a look at how adding efficiency to your household can earn you money:

Qualifying systems include:

  • Heat pumps – 15.0 SEER or greater $135
  • Straight cool / natural gas heat – 15.0 SEER or greater $135 (new furnace required, propane gas does not qualify)
  • Heat pump mini splits – 15.0 SEER or greater $135 (based on the number of condensing units)
  • Geothermal systems – 12.0 EER or greater $135

Restrictions

  • A minimum Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER) of 15.0 is required to participate.
  • Geothermal systems are eligible with a minimum EER of 12.0.
  • Ductless heat pump mini-split systems that have a minimum SEER of 15.0 are eligible for a rebate. The rebate is based on the number of condensing units.

If this sounds like cool news – or if saving energy and money helps you feel all warm and fuzzy inside – then check out our Heating & Cooling program web page for more information. The rebates are great, but the long-term energy savings are what you’ll remember when winter is just a distant memory…during those other 358 or so days of the year that often feel like summer.
