Kenneth Hernandez, program manager of TECO Energy’s Alternative Fuel Vehicles, told the magazine about Tampa Electric’s recently completed readiness study that shows the company’s existing infrastructure can “easily” handle any extra demand as a result of customers plugging in to charge their vehicles (View article in PDF format).

Later in the article, readers learn about “Time of Use” pricing plans that offer lower rates for electricity during off-peak times. Tampa Electric is one of few electric utilities in Florida to offer a program like this to its residential customers. Called Energy Planner, it provides lower rates that can save EV owners money when they charge during off-peak hours. Better yet, the program provides lower rates for the entire home, saving the average customer about 10 percent in electricity costs per year.

The article also features a look at Tampa Electric’s battery-powered bucket trucks and our Chevy Volts, just two of the company’s growing fleet of alternative fuel vehicles that so far includes 16 Volts, three Nissan LEAFs, 20 bucket trucks with battery-powered buckets and others.  Visit tecoenergy.com/afv to learn more about TECO Energy’s commitment to alternative fuel vehicles – and how you can get on the road to better sustainability of your own.
