TECO Energy President and CEO John Ramil was one of the top volunteers among 177,000 others nationwide who donated their time in 2012 to help young people succeed through Junior Achievement.

JA of Tampa Bay awarded Ramil with its premier award for volunteerism, the Bronze Leadership Award, at a ceremony Feb. 28 at Busch Gardens in Tampa. Junior Achievement says it is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs.

As a member of the board of directors of JA of Tampa Bay, Ramil recruits business volunteers and raises investments for JA programs. He also has served as chair of the Celebrate Junior Achievement Luncheon for the past two years and as chair, with his wife Naida, of JA’s holiday auction benefit.

Founded in 1916, JA worked with more than 4.2 million students in more than 183,000 classrooms from 120 areas across the United States in the 2011-2012 school year. Through Ramil’s encouragement and support, TECO team members regularly participate in major JA efforts, including the JA Bowl-a-Thon, Biztown and Diploma-See.

“It’s a tremendous honor to receive this recognition from an organization that’s done so much to help give tomorrow’s leaders the tools they’ll need to succeed,” Ramil said. “I accept this honor on behalf of the countless TECO team members who have given their time and contributions over the years to help JA achieve its goals of creating a stronger future for the communities we serve.”

Richard George, president of Junior Achievement of Tampa Bay, saluted the many ways his organization and the community have benefitted from the involvement of Ramil, who in 2012 accepted JA’s Outstanding Partner Award.

“John Ramil is a wonderful example of how one person can make such a huge difference in the lives of young people in our community,” George said.
