Judy Robbins is an example of yet another bright light in the community from TECO – and she has the award to prove it. Robbins, industrial account manager with Tampa Electric, is the winner of the 2015 Outstanding Business Partnership Award from the city of Tampa.

Robbins received the award on Nov. 10 at the Chief’s Appreciation Event, presented by the Tampa Police Department (TPD) at the Lions Eye Institute in Ybor City. Tampa Police Chief Eric Ward selected Robbins for the honor, which recognizes her work in support of the Bright Lights, Safe Nights initiative – a partnership between Tampa and Tampa Electric to bring 8,400 streetlights to neighborhoods with higher crime rates.

The city of Tampa’s award nomination form for Robbins praises her for more than just her work on Bright Lights, Safe Nights:

… TECO has strategically assisted with our crime fight by being an effective resource for our Crime Free Multi-housing program and residents. The organization and one member in particular, Mrs. Judy Robbins has educated property managers at countless Crime Free Multi-housing trainings, and the Neighborhood University on how to incorporate sufficient lighting for their properties. She also educates on energy saving strategies, and is so passionate about helping the community, that she releases her direct line of communication to ensure that citizens are properly served.

Robbins, a 33-year Tampa Electric team member, said she was shocked and honored to receive the award – and that it spotlights a great relationship between the city and TECO that dates back to 1899.

“It’s wonderful to work for a company that does more than just talk about how much it values the communities we serve – TECO’s work with the city of Tampa through Bright Lights, Safe Nights is having a definite positive impact,” Robbins said.

She cited more good news for the community with an effort by TPD officers to go door-to-door in Bright Lights, Safe Nights neighborhoods to hand out free energy-efficient CFL lights bulbs, provided by Tampa Electric, to residents.

“Tampa Electric and TPD share communities that depend on us, and that’s not something we take lightly,” Robbins said. “The team I’m proud to work with at TECO is committed to empowering our customers to create safer, stronger communities. What we do helps TPD, and what TPD does helps us – as we work together to help the community.”
