Tampa Electric salutes small businesses

If you’re shopping over the holiday weekend, we encourage you to support your local small businesses.

Small Business_1November 29 is this year’s official Small Business Saturday. Held on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, it was first observed in 2010. It’s a counterpart to big box retail’s Black Friday and e-commerce store’s Cyber Monday.

Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar stores that are small and local. These establishments are the backbone of America and make a large impact on the economy. According to the Small Business Administration, about 63% of all new jobs created in the U.S. from mid-2009 to the end of 2012 were for small businesses. We think that’s pretty big business!

So stop in and make a purchase any time, not just on Small Business Saturday.
