Thanks to Tampa Electric’s ENERGY STAR® New Construction program, more than 600 Tampa Electric customers moved into an ENERGY STAR certified home in 2017. As a result, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR Certified Homes team awarded Tampa Electric with its “ENERGY STAR Certified Homes Market Leader Award” in recognition of the company’s continued commitment to providing homebuyers with ENERGY STAR certified homes. The award recognizes Tampa Electric’s work in promoting energy efficient construction and helping homebuyers experience the peace of mind, quality, comfort and value that come with living in an ENERGY STAR certified home.
“We launched our ENERGY STAR New Construction program in late 2015,” said Rob Vollmer, program manager for Tampa Electric. “Since that time, we have helped nearly 1,500 customers move into ENERGY STAR certified homes, and we’re on track to add approximately 1,000 more in 2018.”
The ENERGY STAR New Construction program encourages homebuyers to seek builders that construct ENERGY STAR-certified homes. When ENERGY STAR requirements are applied to a new homes construction, an integrated approach to design combined with tried-and-true best building practices adds up to a durable, comfortable home with reduced utility and maintenance costs.
Tampa Electric offers money-back rebates to builders
Tampa Electric’s ENERGY STAR New Construction program encourages builders to construct residential homes utilizing high-efficiency building techniques that meet or exceed ENERGY STAR standards. In return, Tampa Electric will pay the builder a rebate of $850 for each home that receives the ENERGY STAR certificate. In addition, Tampa Electric will pay owners or developers that construct multifamily buildings a $325 rebate on each residential unit when they utilize high-efficiency building techniques that meet or exceed ENERGY STAR standards.
