The latest comes from Sustainable Florida, an organization that “promotes sustainable best management practices through collaborative educational efforts throughout Florida,” according to its website. Topping 21 other nominees for the Sustainable Partnership Award, Tampa Electric received the honor on Oct. 9 at the Streamsong Resort in Bowling Green, Fla.

Although the award recognized the Renewable Energy program as a whole, Tampa Electric emphasized its partnership with LEGOLAND, said Shelly Aubuchon, program manager with Marketing & Program Development with Tampa Electric.

“While Renewable Energy has made great strides on its own in terms of public exposure, our partnership with LEGOLAND has really taken things to the next level,” Aubuchon said. “It’s the largest LEGOLAND park in the world, which is an unmatched opportunity for Tampa Electric to reach people from around the world.”

LEGOLAND’s Earth Day celebration included running the entire park for a full 24 hours on solar power – making it the first theme park in the world to do so. Aubuchon said Renewable Energy is always looking for ways to partner with people and organizations for one-time event purchases as well as longer-term agreements. The park furthered its commitment to the environment by subscribing monthly to purchase renewable energy from Tampa Electric’s voluntary program to power the Imagination Zone, where visitors learn about all forms of energy.

“Beyond the carbon dioxide offsets and other ways that renewable energy is good for the environment, we offer flexibility in how people can participate,” Aubuchon said. “LEGOLAND is one example of how Tampa Electric thinks big, but the beauty of Renewable Energy is that the program welcomes individuals just as eagerly.”
