Team members bring expertise to Great American Teach-In

Tampa Electric’s Denise Rodriguez teaches students of Wilson Elementary in Plant City about the importance of saving energy.

Tampa Electric team members took time out of serving customers and constituents to share their expertise with the next generation at the Great American Teach-In on Nov. 15.

While the men and women of TECO Energy have long shown their commitment to the community by participating in the Teach-In, this year saw a new effort by the Energy Management Services team to focus on energy efficiency for about 2,100 students at six elementary and four middle schools. The Energy Education Outreach Program complemented the more traditional Teach-In appearances by team members to tell students about various aspects of their jobs.

Denise Rodriguez was among Tampa Electric team members who volunteered at Wilson Elementary School in Plant City, Fla. The senior commercial energy analyst taught students about energy efficiency as part of the Energy Education Outreach Program.

“It was a great experience to talk to the students about saving energy, electrical safety and other things,” Rodriguez said. “They were interested in what I was saying the entire time and asked some excellent questions.”

As part of their Teach-In visits, team members with Energy Management Services gave each student they spoke to a free energy-savings kit that includes four free energy-efficient light bulbs, low-flow aerators, a filter whistle and water temperature check card.
