TECO Energy and its longtime legal counsel, Holland & Knight law firm, came together for a day of community stewardship at Metropolitan Ministries on Sept. 11.

About 20 TECO team members from the legal and government affairs departments joined Holland & Knight employees for a day of helping that included serving food to the hungry, packaging items for the homeless and more. They even earned TV coverage from WTSP Channel 10 in Tampa.

“The experience was really positive – Metropolitan Ministries was happy to have our help,” said Javier Cuebas, corporate counsel with TECO Energy and the company’s coordinator for the event. “We brought some real community commitment to two shifts throughout the day, and by the time it was over, you could see the results of our work to try to make life a little better for people who need help.”

Holland & Knight employees volunteer in the community each Sept. 11 in honor of one of their own, Glenn Winuk, who was a volunteer firefighter when he lost his life in the 9/11 terror attacks in New York City.

“Holland & Knight knew about our strong corporate culture of helping in the community, so they simply asked if we wanted to join them,” Cuebas said. “It turned out to be a great day of making a difference for everyone involved.”
