Begley – lead desktop support analyst with Desktop & Managing Services – has been part of the annual Paint Your Heart Out, Tampa effort for years. A nonprofit program sponsored by Tampa Electric, the city of Tampa and other organizations, Paint Your Heart Out brings volunteers together to improve the homes of low-income, elderly residents who lack the resources to do it themselves.

This year, the program’s 26th, Begley decided to coordinate her own team.

“I was blessed to have 24 volunteers from IT&T, Customer Service and Regulatory, as well as two contractors from the Service Desk,” Begley said. “We arrived at 7 a.m. on April 26th and by the end, at 4:30 p.m., it was very rewarding to for all of us.”

And painting was far from the only task the team members handled.

“We bought the resident a new mailbox and Stacey Hallman put it together; Lisa Hall repaired her screen door and painted her yard furniture; Lisa Grant fixed her outdoor light post and Keith Sims cooked up a feast of pulled pork BBQ for us,” Begley added.

Begley’s Paint Your Heart Out team was one of three from Tampa Electric. Leading the other two were Consulting Engineer Kent Price and Lineman Curley McKenzie. Tampa Electric’s longtime Paint Your Heart Out liaison is Eastern Garage Lead Mechanic Candido (Candy) Corona, who thanked team members and the heads of departments across TECO for their support for Paint Your Heart Out over the years.

Praise for Begley’s team in particular, meanwhile, came not just from the homeowner herself, but from Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn.

“As Mayor Buckhorn said, ‘The look in the homeowner’s face, with that newfound since of pride, made it all worth it,’” Begley said, “and I know my team couldn’t agree more.”
