Thirty years after the first national holiday celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his enduring greatness continues to inspire people of all races, ages and walks of life – something on full display in Winter Haven, Fla. on Jan. 16 as TECO team members walked and rode in the annual parade honoring Dr. King.

With a Tampa Electric bucket truck and lots of smiles, TECO team members again put their community spirit on display as the parade set out from city hall. In its 37th year, Winter Haven’s parade celebrating Dr. King predates the national holiday – not unlike how TECO team members take a proactive approach to being a positive force in the community, in Winter Haven and in neighborhoods across TECO’s service area.

TECO’s commitment to the community stands alongside its dedication to diversity, said Teretha Robinson, area service coordinator with Tampa Electric’s Winter Haven Operations team and one of the organizers of her company’s participation in the annual parade.

“I’m proud to work for a company that holds diversity in such high regard,” Robinson said. “It’s always great to come together each year for this parade and holiday to celebrate what it means, to enjoy the camaraderie of this team and, most of all, to do our part to help ensure that  the younger generation understands why society must continue to strive to achieve the dreams of Dr. King.”
