As a carrier of U.S. troops, supplies, fuel and more, the SS American Victory has seen several lifetimes worth of action in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam, along with multiple typhoons and a hurricane.

Yet her mission continues – and with Operation Partnership, she served as site of an event designed to carry armed forces veterans and soon-to-be veterans to what could be the job of a lifetime at places like TECO.

Operation Partnership is an annual, multi-day program to help connect people transitioning out of the military with careers in the civilian sector. TECO has proudly hosted the event at its headquarters in recent years as part of our commitment to veterans and the military. This year, aboard the Victory – docked in Tampa’s Channelside district – we joined large local employers like USAA and T-Mobile in an exciting setting, made more so by the prospect of finding qualified armed forces veterans who are capable and ready to be part of the massive effort to bring safe, reliable power to you.

“Operation Partnership was another great success – the representatives from TECO enjoyed meeting veterans, and we saw a lot of tremendous potential in those who are eager to contribute at places like TECO,” said Recruiter Nadia Salcedo. “One thing that’s very common among job candidates with military backgrounds is an unwavering dedication to safety, which is our top corporate value and our No. 1 priority.”

Thank you, veterans!
Thank you, veterans!

She added, “From customer service to engineering to upper management, veterans have succeeded at all levels at TECO – and it’s great to know more will be joining them!”

Our commitment to veterans goes far deeper than the shipping channel where the SS American Victory is docked, however. We’ve volunteered our time with pride to help enhance a sanctuary for wounded veterans at My Warrior’s Place in Ruskin. We also help wounded veterans through Paws for Patriots, a program that matches those various disabilities with guide dogs. In December, we’ll be honoring fallen veterans with Wreaths Across America at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL; look for more soon.

And be sure to wave to veterans who work for (and retired from) TECO in two parades – the 25th Annual Veterans Parade in Town ‘N Country and the 39th Annual Veterans Day Parade in Ruskin.

On land and at sea, from honoring sacrifices of the past to welcoming those who can help us build stronger communities for the future, TECO is proud to honor our nearly 200 military veterans at company locations across Florida and at our sister company, New Mexico Gas Company, as well as veterans everywhere – on Veterans Day and always.
