As we celebrate a man who was among the greatest of American heroes – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. – we say thanks to TECO team members and everyone who volunteers to try to make the world a better place as champions of the community.

This takes several forms. In the most recent tally, our team members donated more than 20,000 hours in the community in 2015 to help those in need and act to benefit the environment that we all share. A stronger, more inclusive community and a healthier environment are two things we must ensure for future generations, and no one can do it alone. That’s why we come together as a team at TECO and look for ways to join you in efforts that require a commitment from all of us to succeed.

As we stand side-by-side with you at events like the annual Winter Haven parade honoring Dr. King, we partner with the city of Tampa to create safer streets. With our Supplier Diversity program, we prioritize efforts to ensure that vendors of all backgrounds have the opportunity to work with us as we bring safe, reliable, affordable power to customers.

When it comes to the environment, we’re increasingly looking to the sky to harness the clean power of the sun for electricity generation. With our Florida Conservation and Technology Center partnership, we’re opening our doors to a free and growing environmental education facility for students and people of all ages. And our support of alternative fuel vehicles helps reduce the nation’s dependence on foreign oil – one important step on the path to greater peace in the world.

“I look forward to participating in the MLK parade each year representing our great company,” said Donna Denmark, distribution design technician with Tampa Electric. “One of my favorite of Dr. King’s quotes is: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Dr. King dreamed of freedom, racial equality, kindness and fairness for all. I’m honored to represent Tampa Electric Company, whose core values reflect those of Dr. King.”

While Martin Luther King Jr. Day is one day out of the year, his values live year-round with everyone who works to make it a more equitable world. We’re proud to salute his legacy and all who strive to follow in his footsteps.
