In a more ideal world, the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. would be part of the fabric of daily life for all Americans. As it is, we must seize opportunities to think and talk about his legacy whenever they present themselves. With that in mind, we’re proud to recognize TECO team members who strive to follow in King’s footsteps in building stronger communities.

Along with TECO team members who brought their voices and goodwill once again to Winter Haven’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade, TECO’s Gerald White, superintendent of Generation and Chris Chambers, security specialist (both with our Energy Supply team) were among those representing their company at the 2018 Bay Area Brotherhood’s 45th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Banquet at MacDill Air Force Base on Jan. 13.

“Everybody can be great, because everyone can serve.”

“The evening’s celebration commemorated 45 years of dedicated community service by Bay Area Brotherhood and support for disadvantaged youth and elderly citizens throughout the Tampa Bay Area,” White said. “And the Brotherhood acknowledged a few local humanitarian champions still striving to keep the “King” dream alive.”

The remarks of St. Petersburg Chief of Police Anthony Holloway, guest speaker at the event, focused on the evening’s theme – “Everybody can be great, because everybody can serve.”

“This was emphasized with great clarity, as it ties into Dr. King’s passion for service and involvement,” White added. “It was an inspiring, service-centered message and we were proud to be on hand to underscore TECO’s connection with and love for West Central Florida, which goes far beyond power generation to encompass the generation of kindness and help for those who need it.”
