Team members across TECO have longstanding appreciation for the company’s Information Technology Service Desk. Now HDI, the association for technical support professionals, has added praise of its own with two major awards – one for the team as a whole and one for its manager, Cay Robertson.

The members of TECO’s Service Desk received the HDI Team Excellence Award for a second time after winning it in 2009, while Robertson is among five new members of the inaugural HDI Hall of Fame. HDI presented the awards at its 2016 HDI Conference & Expo in Orlando in April.

“We’re so incredibly proud of Cay and the Service Desk team for the dedication to excellence they bring to their jobs every day at TECO, and the honors from HDI are powerful validation of that,” said Kevin Sturgill, director of Business Computing Services at Tampa Electric. “It’s important to note that the only other two-time winner of HDI’s Team Excellence Award is PepsiCo – I think everyone can agree that puts us in pretty good company.”

Karen Mincey, TECO Energy’s vice president of Information Technology & Telecommunications and chief information officer, added her voice to the chorus of congratulations for the winners.

“I am incredibly proud of Kevin, Cay and the Service Desk team. This HDI award recognized their innovative use of technologies to support team members across TECO Energy responsible for providing our customers with reliable electricity and natural gas,” she said. “These two well-deserved honors represent wins for TECO and the communities we serve. Great job!”

Robertson, who started her career at TECO in 1980 as a payroll clerk, joined the company’s IT team in 1986, two years before it moved into its current home at the Ybor Data Center. Her team was also one of the top three finalists for the HDI Knowledge-Center Support award in 2015. Among her many roles over the years with HDI, she is currently the HDI Southeast Regional Director and a member of the HDI Member Advisory Board, as well as the chapter advisor for the HDI Skyway chapter.

“To be an inductee in the inaugural HDI Hall of Fame class is such an honor,” Robertson said. “This recognition took me by total surprise. HDI is an organization that I strongly believe in, and my huge and heartfelt thanks go out to the entire team that I’m fortunate to work with at TECO. The HDI Team Excellence Award couldn’t go to a better group – they do so much, every single day, to make TECO the great company that it is.”
