What is National Hispanic Heritage Month?

Wednesday, Sept. 15, kicks off a national celebration to honor the history, culture, and influence of past generations from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central/South America. This observance started in 1968 as a one-week celebration called Hispanic Heritage Week. Years later, on Aug. 17, 1988, the observance officially changed to National Hispanic Heritage Month, a 30-day period from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15.
