Tampa Electric’s commitment to education involves helping students of all ages succeed. Through the Great American Teach-In, the Career & College Fest and Junior Achievement programs that teach young people professional skills, our team members donate countless hours annually to share their knowledge with students.

If you’re looking for a sign that career education could help you build your future, you’ll find a whole series of them in TECO Plaza’s atrium. Through Feb. 15, it’s the site of a display sponsored by the Hillsborough Education Foundation to promote its Career and Technical Education Month initiatives.

“The goal is to spotlight career opportunities through career education to the public, team members and people they know,” said Alan Denham, associate regional manager with Tampa Electric’s Community Relations team and new chair of the Hillsborough Education Foundation’s Career & Technical Education Committee. “We’re reinforcing career and technical education as a path many students pursue to get trained and certified in a variety of career fields, along with internships, scholarships, networking and other tools to help them achieve their goals.”

Denham takes over as committee chair from Leroy Sullivan Jr., regional manager of Community Relations with Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas. On Feb. 7, the foundation honored Sullivan with a plaque for his six years of leadership in the role.

“I’m proud to have had the opportunity to help the Career & Technical Education Committee, which is in good hands with Alan’s leadership,” Sullivan said. “What people should remember is that TECO and the Hillsborough Education Foundation share goals – that we all benefit, along with the community as a whole, when more people have the chance to learn new skills and find valuable new ways to earn a living.”
