We’re raising the bar on energy efficiency

October is Energy Awareness Month – sign up for a free Energy Audit.

In the coming weeks, we expect the Florida Publics Service Commission (FPSC) will approve our new energy-efficiency goals – often referred to as Demand-Side Management (DSM) goals. Our proposed goals add up to 165-Gigawatt hours over the next 10 years – a 14 percent increase over the company’s current 10-year goal. To put this in perspective, the energy-efficiency programs we make available to all our customers will offset the need to generate enough electricity to power nearly 12,500 homes in one year. From an environmental perspective, this is equivalent to removing 19,000 cars from the road or offsetting 100,000 tons of carbon dioxide in one year.

Tampa Electric is an energy-efficiency leader in the state of Florida. “We currently offer 36 energy-efficiency programs to our residential and commercial & industrial customers,” said Mark Roche, Manager, Regulatory Rates for Tampa Electric.  “We offer more energy-efficiency programs than any other utility in the state.” As part of the goal submitted, Tampa Electric will add several new programs that will become available in late 2020 and discontinue a few that are no longer effective due to increased building codes and appliance energy-efficiency standards.

The nationally certified energy experts at Tampa Electric have been helping customers save energy and money with energy-efficiency programs for more than 40 years. At the end of August of this year, more than 816,000 customers have participated in the company’s energy-efficiency programs.
