You’re about to pay a lot less for your electric service

Lower rates - happy couple

It’s official. Tampa Electric’s 2019 bills are going back in time—all the way to 2005. What does that mean? Vintage rates – the lowest in 13 years. The average residential bill is dropping by more than $8, or about 8 percent, to $99.53 for 1,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of usage. Commercial and industrial customers will also see bills drop by about 8 percent to 10 percent, depending on usage.

The decrease, approved by the Florida Public Service Commission on Nov. 5, is a result of several factors. Fuel costs and environmental compliance costs are going down. And while 2019 bills are rising to reflect a base rate adjustment for utility-scale solar projects coming online in the next several months, the fuel and environmental costs combined with the previously approved tax reform benefit make for an overall lower bill.
