Community Zap Cap Coach

Zap Cap Systems honors Coach of the Bay

Coach of the Bay

Tampa Electric’s Zap Cap Systems® honored the Coach of the Bay at a recent Tampa Bay Lightning game. Zap Cap has partnered with the Lightning this season to recognize and honor youth sports coaches in our community who coach kids ages 18 and under.

We’re proud to congratulate youth hockey coach of the Whalers and Avalanche, Tommy (Hootie) Burgess, as the latest recipient of this honor.

Here’s what folks had to say about Coach Burgess:

“He treats each player with the upmost respect, and the connection he has with all of them is so special.”

“The passion he has for these kids that aren’t even his own, and the love and support he provides for all of them truly is amazing. He really is someone to look up to.”

“We [Hootie and his wife] signed our boys up for roller hockey in 2015, and after realizing their passion for the game was real, Hootie jumped right in – coaching, encouraging, and training kids from beginners on up to those who were more “seasoned.” After a few seasons in roller, we made the switch to Ice Hockey, and the relationships Hootie has been able to form not only with the kids, but with the other coaches and parents, has been unbelievably rewarding. From throwing together roller hockey practices and scrimmages with our own boys – as well as current or former players – in a nearby park in his “off” afternoons to scheduled time on the ice, he pours everything he has into making sure these kids know his love for the sport is real. He wouldn’t trade a thing for the opportunity to be on the ice – or a nearby outdoor sport court – with these kids he’s grown to know and love.”

Coach Burgess is donating his $1,000 award to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. In addition to the donation, Coach Burgess received a in-game recognition, a personalized Lightning jersey and a Zap Cap Systems prize pack.

Zap Cap Systems is proud to support the strength of youth coaches across our communities. Anyone can nominate a youth or high school coach in the Greater Tampa Bay area for consideration. Here’s more information on how you can nominate a deserving youth coach.
