Zap Cap Systems honors December Coach of the Month

Tampa Electric’s Zap Cap Systems® honored its December Coach of the Month at a recent Tampa Bay Lightning game. Zap Cap has partnered with the Lightning this season to recognize and honor youth sports coaches in our community who coach kids ages 18 and under.

We’re proud to congratulate retired baseball coach Frank Permuy as the latest recipient of this honor.

Here’s more about Coach Permuy:

  • Former head baseball coach at Leto High School, University of Tampa, Tampa Catholic High School, Gaither High School and West Tampa American Legion Post 248.

Accomplishments:

  • During his career as a baseball coach, he accumulated 1,382 wins and a winning percentage of .655
  • Won the Legion World Championship with West Tampa American Legion Post 248
  • Won the Florida state title with Tampa Catholic
  • Best known for launching the baseball program at Gaither High School in 1984.

He spent 30 years as head baseball coach, building what continues to be one of Florida’s strongest high school baseball programs.

Retired following the 2014 season, capping a 50-year career as a baseball coach. The following year, Gaither High School dedicated the baseball field in his honor, renaming the field Frank Permuy Park.

Coach Permuy has positively impacted the lives of literally thousands of student-athletes throughout the Tampa community during his time as a coach. Many of his players went on to careers in Major League Baseball, including: Fred Mcgriff, Richard Monteleone, Luis Gonzalez, Lance Mccullers Sr., Tino Martinez, and The Manager of The Tampa Bay Rays-Kevin Cash.

Coach Permuy is a five-time hall of fame inductee – The Florida Athletic Coaches Association, The Florida High School Athletic Association, The Baseball Coaches Of America, The Sports Club Of Tampa Bay, and he just returned from Indianapolis, Indiana, where he was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association.

 

Coach Permuy is donating his $1,000 award to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay.
